Michigan burst onto the scene with their five freshman starters and Final Four run in '92. They entered the '93 season as the #1 team in country and a target squarely on their back. The Fab Five were now a year older and anything less than another Final Four run would be a failure. The Wolverines went 26-4 during the regular season and never fell lower than #7 in the polls.

Led by Consensus 1st Team All American and 1990 Pac-10 Player of the Year Gary Payton, the Oregon State Beavers went 22-6 claiming the conference regular season title. The Beavers entered the NCAA Tournament as the #5 seed in the West Region. A heartbreaking upset loss to #12 seed Ball State ended their season but the legacy of Gary Payton and the 1990 team live on in school history.

Haskins and Texas Western (now UTEP) started 5 African American players during a time where entire conferences didn't have a single black player. TWC only lost one game, by two points to Seattle, during the regular season and entered the NCAA Tournament 23-1.

Starting the season unranked, Southern Cal put the nation on notice beating #4 Ohio State, 79-77. It was the first of four wins vs. top 5 ranked teams on the year. Two of those four wins were against UCLA and the other was 70-69 classic against #2 Arizona in the final game of the regular season.
