The Pennsylvania town of Johnstown may be on the small side, but it has a big hockey history. You may know about the Johnstown Chiefs and how they were immortalized in the movie Slapshot. But Johnstown was also home to the wildly successful Jets before the Chiefs existed. The Jets weren't the first EHL team in the area (the Johnstown Bluebirds were a one year entry in 1942) but they are certainly one of the most important historically.

The San Diego Mariners started play in the WHA for the 1974-75 season after moving across the country from New Jersey. The Mariners were successful on the ice each of their three seasons in San Diego, making the playoffs all three times and the second round twice. They didn't have a ton of success in terms of attendance though, and were sold to a group who wanted to move the team to Florida. That never materialized and the team folded in mid-1977.
